The Electoral Commission of Queensland (ECQ) is established under the Electoral Act 1992 as an independent, statutory authority, responsible for the impartial conduct of Queensland elections.
Our purpose is to support the democratic electoral process by preparing for, conducting and reporting on elections in Queensland.
Our vision is to be an evolving Commission, trusted and respected by the community.
ECQ contributes to the State Government’s objectives by delivering quality front line services in the form of open, accountable and accessible electoral services for all Queenslanders.
Guide to Democracy
The Guide to Democracy aims to facilitate young people’s understanding of electoral matters, by investigating issues in their communities and learning how to take action on them. Through this hands-on approach, students will learn that politics affects them. They will realise there are a number of ways in which they can participate in a democracy, in addition to voting.
