Who decides?
What's next?
During an election, people elect their representatives (i.e. Councillors and Members of Parliament). One of the responsibilities of the Parliament is to debate and vote on new laws. Government departments are then responsible for putting these laws into action.
When taking action on an issue, it is important to:
- Correctly identify which level of government is responsible
- Find out the name of the government department that is responsible
- Visit the government department’s website to find out if they are doing something about the issue already, and to what extent.
